Here we sit down with Lee Anne Haggard, to know a bit more about her journey as a female entrepreneur.
Q. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Lee: I grew up with my parents being in Business for themselves and liked that they could do their own thing when and how they wanted. I have never been someone that has liked being told what to do.
So being my Own Boss has come naturally to me, once I had experienced it there was no going back.
Q. HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Lee: I was very creative at school and did mainly art subjects. So out of school, I started designing logos, etc. I then went to college while working and did my Advanced Diploma of Arts. Then at the age of 21, I started my first business which was a Website & Graphic Design business. After 2 years I then became involved with a Franchise and ran this business for 8 years overall very successfully. After starting a family, my priorities changed and I wanted something that was more family-friendly that would give me more flexibility and fewer hours.
After seeking a change, I came across an online business based in the Personal Leadership Development industry. I started it part-time almost 13 years ago now. I have since created amazing results both personally and financially and have for the past 6 years been the Top-Earning Distributor Globally.
Q. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST STARTUP CHALLENGE? WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO OVERCOME IT? WHAT DID YOU LEARN?
Lee: My biggest challenge when I got started was time. I was working 60-70 hours a week, had 2 daughters that were 2mth old and 2 years old at the time. So I had to create more time in my day. So I started getting up at 4 am every morning to create more time. I did that for the first 2 years of my business while I built it up.
What drives me is my family and providing for them. Plus the ability to inspire and guide others to create a life they love too.
Q. WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE THING YOU’VE DONE SINCE YOU STARTED YOUR BUSINESS?
Lee: We have done so many amazing memorable things over the past 13 years. Including traveling the world with my parents & children. Experiencing things we never would have if I had stayed in my first business. So super grateful for that.
The thing that really jumps out for me though is smashing a crazy income ceiling, in our business that no one had achieved previously, this was just recently in June 2021.. which is memorable for many.
Q. WHAT IS ONE BOOK YOU RECOMMEND, AND WHY?
Lee: How Would Love Respond by Kurek Ashley.
I have read this book so many times. I just love the lessons throughout the book that are weaved through Kurek’s amazing life journey. It has really taught me some lessons which have changed my life.
Q. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 FAVOURITE ONLINE APPS, TOOLS OR RESOURCES AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THEM?
- Calendly – People can schedule phone appointments with me based on the times available in my calendar. Love this!
- Canva – So easy to make an amazing looking image for any platform
- Google Keep – I love lists and this helps me keep my lists easily at hand and easy to also check off things as I go
Q. IN TERMS OF LEGACY, WHAT IS THE MARK YOU’D LIKE TO LEAVE ON THE WORLD?
Lee: The Legacy I want to leave is to be a demonstration for my family and for others as to what is achievable in life if you put your mind to it.
Q. IN ONE SENTENCE, WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’D GIVE TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT ON THEIR ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY
Lee: You may need to give up something short-term to create what you want long-term. Do whatever it takes.
