Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has ordered the evacuation of the Australian embassy in Ukraine, as the situation between Russia and Ukraine has reached a very dangerous level. Though, Russian spokespersons deny any intention to invade Ukraine, fears still exist. Western government questions, if Vladimir Putin’s intentions are peaceful, why there are more than half of Russia’s armed forces deployed on Ukraine’s border.
Evacuation of Australian Staff
Meanwhile, Australian foreign minister, Marie Payne says the Australian government has issued orders for the departure of embassy staff to a temporary office in Lviv. Scott Morrison said on Sunday, ‘’ the situation is deteriorating and is reaching a very dangerous stage. I want to send a very clear message on behalf of Australia… that the autocratic, unilateral actions of Russia, to be threatening and bullying Ukraine, is something that is completely and utterly unacceptable. ‘’
The Prime minister said that Australia is promoting peace and prosperity in the region. Meanwhile, Scott also talks about Chines criticism. He said, ‘’ Yes, the Chines government is happy to criticize Australia for engaging in peaceful activities yet remain chillingly silent on Russian troops massing on the Ukrainian border.’’
Australians in Ukraine
Senator Payne advised that Australians leave Ukraine immediately amid fears of invasion. He said that the security condition could change at short notice. If Russia invades Ukraine, we won’t be able to assist Australians.
‘’ We remain in close contact with our Five Eyes (Intelligence alliance) and other like-minded partners on the ground.’’
Also, Australians in Ukraine seeking consular assistance can call the Australian government. It’s available 24 hours on the emergency centre on 1300 555 135 or +61 2 6261 3305 outside Australia. Similarly, other countries are also taking measures and evacuating their staff from Ukraine.
