US- Elizabeth Holmes surprised the US court by testifying in her defense for an accusation of Scamming investors. She was blamed for millions of dollars scam with a bogus blood test. She made false claims about her firm Theranos. Holmes claims its technology could detect diseases with a drop of blood.
Also, she is charged with fraud and if she is found guilty, she will spend years in jail. Though, she denied the claims made against herself and the firm. She believe she was contributing to society and had worked with good intentions.
Theranos firm worth
The firm Theranos is worth $9 billion. Holmes is the founder of this firm. Holmes said that she founded the firm after dropping out of Stanford University. She worked with a group of teams who she believes made an apparent technological development.
She said, ‘’ we worked for years with teams of scientists and engineers to miniaturize all of the technologies in the laboratory.’’
Current status
She is been on trial for almost two months in California. Jurors in California have heard testimony from more than two dozen prosecution witnesses in this case. Among the witnesses includes the investors and patients who prosecutors say Ms. Holmes betrayed.
Through, her idea of technology, Holmes has attracted high-profile investors including Rupert Murdoch. However, in 2015, a whistleblower reveals that the test did not work. Which brought the billionaire under strict investigation.
Meanwhile, by 2018, her firm fell under the biggest corporate scale in US history. The trial began in September, is expected to run until next month. It is expected that if she is found guilty she will face almost 20 years of her life in Jail.
For the first time, she appeared before the jury without a mask. She said she wanted to help people. Though, some believe it is a seriously risky move for the defense, as it now opens Ms. Holmes up to cross-examination.
