Compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android, the browser is built on Google’s Chromium. while ensuring a familiar user experience akin to Chrome. Users have the flexibility to customize the landing page and remove sections according to their preferences, enhancing personalization.
Michael Metcalf, Ecosia’s Chief Product Officer, expressed the company’s motive to extend its sustainability efforts into browsing experiences. The company aim to meet users where they are. The browser launch coincides with the introduction of an affiliate shopping program, directing revenues from links to Amazon, eBay, and Decathlon towards tree planting and environmental projects.
Metcalf emphasized the opportunity for users to contribute positively while acknowledging the appeal of online shopping. Ecosia plans to refine the shopping interface, integrate an AI chatbot, and introduce further customization. Initially targeting its 20 million search engine user base, the company aims to attract environmentally conscious consumers. While retaining optimism about user retention, Ecosia remains discreet about its impact on search traffic.
