Cybersecurity company Rapid7 considers a sale

According to persons familiar with the situation, Rapid7, the cyber security company that last month employed Twitter leaker Peiter Zatko, is considering all of its options, including a potential sale.

According to the sources, the Boston-based company is collaborating with investment bank Goldman Sachs Group as it evaluates proposals from parties including private equity groups.

The sources, who asked to remain anonymous because the topic is private, stressed that the conversations are in their early stages and that no agreement is certain.

An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by Rapid7 spokespersons.

A spokeswoman for Goldman Sachs declined to comment.

Rapid7 specialises in “vulnerability management,” offering software tools and services that assist companies in identifying and keeping track of security concerns.

Due to corporate clients’ decreased expenditure as a result of worries about an economic slowdown, it has been compelled to fight more fiercely for customers.

Zatko, a former hacker who oversaw Twitter’s security up to his firing in January 2022, was announced as Rapid7’s latest part-time consultant last month.

Elon Musk tried unsuccessfully to back out of his US$44 billion purchase of Twitter last year due to Zatko’s allegations regarding Twitter’s security holes and lack of control over spam bots.
