Cyberattack on Automobile company Eager

Eagers australia

Eagers Australia’s biggest automotive dealership group is under cyber attack. The attack has affected some IT systems in New Zealand and Australia. Recently, there has been an increase in cyber incidents in Australia.

The company said that the outage restricted its ability to trade in some operating locations. The company has warned its customers, suppliers and other associates about the attacks. Meanwhile, said that they should be alert to any suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, the company has started its investigation of the incident. They are focusing on safeguarding customers and employee’s information. The intense investigation is within IT systems to assess the extent of the attack.

Eagers spokesperson said in an statement reported in The Australian: ‘’The company is investigating rapidly and, to this point, has not found any access to or misuse of customer or employee information.

Highly important to secure the privacy of the customer and employees

The company has also appointed external incident response to support the investigation. Spokesperson also added that it’s highly important to secure the privacy of the customer and employees. The main focus is on restoration of the system and the data.

“At this stage, customers do not need to do anything but we ask them to remain vigilant of any suspicious activity.”

The Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) has acknowledged this heightened risk and recently began offering workshops led by cybersecurity experts to help dealerships protect themselves from intrusions. This proactive approach, combined with continued investments in robust security solutions like CheckPoint and SentinelOne, are crucial steps for Eagers and the entire automotive industry in mitigating future cyber threats.

While the full picture of the Eagers incident is yet to unfold, it serves as a stark reminder of the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape and the importance of prioritizing data protection in an increasingly digital age.
