Pizza Hut Cyber Attack Exposes Personal Data of Australian Customers

In a shocking revelation, Pizza Hut, one of Australia’s favorite fast-food chains, announced that it had fallen victim to a cyber attack that exposed the personal details of its loyal customers across the country. With 251 restaurants spread nationwide, Pizza Hut’s cyber security breach serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present threat of cybercrime in our digital age.

The breach came to light when Pizza Hut’s CEO, Phil Reed, sent an email to customers on a fateful Wednesday, confessing that the company had fallen prey to an unauthorized third-party intrusion.

Reed explained that the incident had been detected in early September, and the company had immediately sprung into action to mitigate the potential damage and secure its systems.

“Currently, we can verify that the affected data pertains to customer record information and online order transactions stored within our Pizza Hut Australia customer database. If you possess a Pizza Hut Australia user account, this also encompasses obscured credit card details, which are rendered unusable, and securely encrypted passwords using a one-way encryption method,” Mr Reed said.

Upon becoming aware of the incident, the company promptly initiated “immediate action” to safeguard its customers. This involved enlisting the expertise of forensic and cyber specialists and initiating an investigation to comprehensively grasp the nature of the event and pinpoint the data that had been affected.

Furthermore, it is known that the company has duly reported the breach to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
