CSIRO Selects Dell for ASAC Science Cluster Project

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) has awarded Dell the contract to replace its ageing Bracewell cluster with the new Advanced Scientific Accelerator Cluster (ASAC). The ASAC project, valued at nearly $16.3 million, was launched as a $14.5 million tender last November.

The new cluster is designed to support machine learning, artificial intelligence workloads, and traditional high-performance computing (HPC) tasks. It will feature hybrid direct liquid cooling technology and will be installed in 14 racks at the Canberra Data Centres facility, starting in September. Researchers can expect access to the new system by December 2023.

The ASAC system will also include high-performance interconnect, out-of-band management for all system nodes, cluster management and monitoring tools, and a comprehensive application development environment as requested in the original tender.
