CS Energy Plans Major Tech Overhaul with SAP Migration

SAP System

CS Energy is set to undergo a significant technology and business transformation. The transistion start with the migration from its legacy SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

The utility plans to transition from SAP ECC6.0 to the S/4 HANA platform later this year. This decision follows a “readiness assessment” conducted in August. CS Energy is now seeking a technology implementation partner to facilitate the migration.

Described as a “strictly technical” upgrade, the move to S/4 HANA is intended to establish a foundation for CS Energy. It will hlep to improve its business capabilities, as noted in documents available on QTenders.

The initial phase of the upgrade will involve setting up and migrating to a cloud hosting platform. Transitioning from the legacy MaxDB database solution to the SAP HANA database, and re-establishing integrations between ERP satellite systems.

“CS Energy is in the planning and scoping phase for upgrading our legacy SAP system to the modern SAP S/4HANA platform,” a spokesperson told iTnews, while declining further comment due to “confidentiality and probity guidelines.”

Post-migration, CS Energy’s business functions—including finance and procurement, asset maintenance, projects, warehousing, and payroll—will shift to utilizing the enhanced features of S/4 HANA.

The utility is currently deciding whether to procure on-premises perpetual S/4 HANA licenses from SAP or to opt for SAP’s RISE offering, a cloud-based ERP solution powered by AI and managed by the vendor, according to the tender.
