Commonwealth Bank Appoints New Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has appointed Rodrigo Castillo as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Castillo started in the role this week, bringing with him over 15 years of experience with HSBC, where he served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the wealth and personal banking business in the “Americas” region, based in Mexico City.

The appointment was announced on LinkedIn by Gavin Munroe, CBA’s Group Executive for Technology and Group CIO, who himself joined the bank in November the previous year. Both Castillo and Munroe previously worked for HSBC’s wealth and personal banking business, but in different capacities.

In his LinkedIn post, Munroe expressed his pleasure at having Castillo on board and highlighted his senior leadership experience in IT management and infrastructure. As CTO, Castillo’s role is expected to oversee the day-to-day operations of the bank’s technology division, working closely with Munroe to maintain CBA’s position as a leading digital bank in Australia. His experience with global IT operations management and supporting critical IT services is expected to contribute to the bank’s continued success and competitive edge.
