Coles selects a new FinTec director

As part of a transformation drive to modernise its legacy systems, Coles Group has appointed Sonja Steiner as its new head of financial technology, or FinTec.

Steiner posted on LinkedIn that she was “eager to work with some new, fantastic colleagues in payments and financial services” and that she was “glad to share” her new role.

At Coles, this position oversees the development and implementation of numerous important technological solutions for payments and financial services.

Coles is also “one of Australia’s largest EFT transactional processing businesses,” according to the ads.

According to a spokeswoman for Coles Group, “the head of FinTec job is responsible for overseeing the technology delivery for Coles Group’s payments and financial services companies.”

Samantha VanDenBerg, a Coles programme manager, had been acting head of FinTec since January.

Rob Magnanini, the retailer’s previous head of FinTec, left at the same time, following one year and eight months in the position but over 25 years with Coles.

Steiner spent three years as the head of wrap operations at Colonial First State.

Salvo Giardina has now been promoted to Colonial First State’s director of wrap operations and transformation.

Steiner spent six years at ANZ Banking Group, five of them as head of payments and cash operations for Australia, and eight years at NAB in various payment roles before joining Colonial First State.
