Woolworths to Freeze Prices of Essential Items to Alleviate Cost of Living

Supermarket giant Woolworths is set to freeze the prices of essential trolly items in a bid to help Australians amid the rising cost of living in the country.

Last week, the retail group warned shoppers of rising grocery prices and shortage of certain items.

The reason given by the supermarket was supply chain issues caused by heavy rainfall in parts of the country.

Additionally, poor weather conditions and low sunlight have affected most of the crops, resulting in poor supply and quality of most of the fresh produce.

Earlier, the food inflation mostly affected the imported and meat products, but now it has begun to affect all sorts of categories, especially grocery items due to ongoing supply chain problems caused by wet weather earlier this year.

Fruits and vegetables are affected badly by the poor growing season, where lettuce costs up to $10. Berry crops are also short in supply, resulting in increased prices.

The rising cost of several products has prompted Woolworths to freeze the prices on its products and essential trolley items such as frozen peas, chicken tenders, canned tomatoes, laundry powder, dishwashing liquid, sugar, and flour.

The new decision is to help customers with the increased cost of living and will last until the end of the year.

Woolworths Group chief Brad Banducci said freezing the prices of essential products will surely help shoppers to battle the rising cost of living.

“We know this is a significant portion of weekly household budgets,” Banducci said.

“As we all lean into the challenges of inflation, rest assured the whole team at Woolworths is committed to making sure you can always get your Woolies worth.”

The cost of groceries has risen drastically in the past few weeks at several Australian supermarkets. The new move by Woolworths will certainly help the customers amid the rising prices.
