Coles have announced the return of a limited edition Easter treat just two days after Christmas – Vegemite and Finest Fruity Brioche Hot Cross Buns.
The Vegemite Hot Cross Buns are made with enriched dough and a layer of melted Vegemite and cheese, while the Coles Finest Fruity Brioche Hot Cross Buns offer a lighter option, made with a buttery brioche dough and plump, sweet sultanas.
The return of the hot cross buns will be a welcome surprise for customers this festive season, as they look to indulge in the sweet treat without having to wait for the Easter period.
Coles has reassured customers that the buns are made with the same quality ingredients as their regular hot cross buns, including free range eggs, wheat flour, and sultanas.
The end of Christmas may have very well marked the end of the holiday season for many, but for those with a sweet tooth, it’s the beginning of something special.
In December 2021, there was a 25 per cent increase in the number of hot cross buns sold compared to the year prior, which was likely due to the fact that the Vegemite buns sold out within weeks of appearing on supermarket shelves last year.
Andy Mossop, Coles executive general manager of Fresh, stated that customers have enthusiastically embraced their delicious hot cross buns, and the strong sales in December suggest a high demand to sample the limited Vegemite flavours before Easter.
“Our limited-edition fruity brioche hot cross buns, with their more premium brioche dough base, offer customers a sweeter twist on the classic and beloved Vegemite mash-up,” he said.
