Coles Group Invests in Melbourne’s Third Automated Distribution Center

The Coles Group is spending $880 million to build its third automated distribution center in Truganina, which is in the outer west of Melbourne. Similar to the current centers in Queensland and New South Wales, Witron’s cutting-edge supply chain automation technology will be used at this new location.

The Queensland-based first center opened for business in April 2023, and the NSW site followed in August. Because it can support stores in various states, this new Truganina location is expected to increase Coles’ supply chain capacity by 15%.

In addition to connecting to Coles’ network in South and Western Australia, this Victorian center will mainly serve all Coles shops in Victoria and Tasmania, improving product availability in those areas.

Coles Group’s managing director and CEO, Leah Weckert, highlighted that this expansion marks a significant move in the company’s technological transformation, aimed at enhancing efficiency and ensuring better product availability for customers.
