Cleo Smith: Sighting a Car near Campsite at 3 am is a recent Development

Detective Investigating the case of Cleo Smith from Blowholes site north of Carnarvon say sighting of a car is ‘ a recent development’. However, they wanted to know who were they and what they were doing.

WP Police says they want to speak to the driver of a car seen turning south off Blowhole Road. The time was 3 am and 3.30 am on the morning of Saturday. This day the four-year-old girl vanished from a composite of the north of Carnarvon.

Desperate search for the girl

Though she was lost on Saturday, there is no clear information regarding her loss. Meanwhile, Detectives believe she was taken from her family’s tent in the early hours of the morning.

Det Supt Rod Wilde said on Sunday that the reported sighting of the car was a‘’ very recent development’’ in the investigation.

‘’ We want the person or persons who were in that vehicle to come forward and contact polices.’’ He added.

‘’ We want to know who they were and what they were doing.’’

Blowholes campground site is an isolated area, 30 minutes off the North West Coastal Highway with only one sealed road in and out. Her parents chose wild beach camp for camping on Friday. However, the overnight disappearance of their child is unimaginable.

Ellie Smith talking to reporters on Tuesday said she didn’t sleep since her daughter went missing.

She added,’’ the worst part is there is nothing more we can do. We feel hapless.’’

The case is very complex and is believed to be the most difficult investigation in WA history. Police believe sometime around 1.30 am and 6 am, someone unzipped the large family tent, and plucked out a sleeping Cleo with her sleeping bag, and then fled.

Current progress

The police say witnesses who reported seeing the car were ‘’ credible sources’’. They believe this information might help find the truth.

Earlier, the WA premier, Mark McGowan, said resources had been directed to finding Cleo and also asked everyone with information to come forward.

‘’ We all feel for her and her family and we just want to make sure that we find her as soon as we can, and that every effort is made to uncover her location so that the family can find out where she is.’’

This is a large-scale investigation, and at the same time very complex. The police is hopeful to solve the case.
