Upgraded Security for myGov
The federal government aims to boost the security of the myGov system with significant changes in user authentication methods. The intended modifications are set to eliminate traditional password log-ins and introduce advanced, passwordless alternatives to access myGov services.
Transition to Biometric and Passkey Authentication
The myGov system will transition to passwordless access using modern technologies like face recognition and passkeys, expected to be implemented within the first six months of the upcoming year. The use of facial recognition software on smartphones will replace conventional password log-ins, intending to fortify security, reduce phishing risks, and enhance user comfort while accessing government services.
Advisory Board and User Experience Enhancement
The government also revealed the formation of an advisory group, led by former NSW Minister Victor Dominello, to enhance the myGov customer experience. The panel, comprising representatives from diverse sectors, aims to provide insights and advice for refining the myGov service, prioritizing customer-centered improvements, and fortifying security to thwart scammers and ensure user safety.
The appointments reflect the government’s emphasis on leveraging innovative digital service delivery and employing a holistic approach under Dominello’s leadership. This advisory group will offer guidance to improve the myGov platform and enhance user experience while ensuring robust security measures against fraudulent activities.
