Australian Man wins US court Battle for Bitcoin Fortune worth billions

Craig Wright an Australian man, who claims to be bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto wins the court battle. He is a computer scientist who prevails in a civil trial against the family of a deceased business partner that claimed to own half of a cryptocurrency fortune worth tens of billions of dollars.

On Monday, the Florida jury found that Craig Wright did not owe bitcoins worth half of 1.1m to the family of David Kleiman. The jury did award the US $100m in intellectual property rights to a joint venture. The award was divided into a fraction of what Kleiman’s lawyers were asking for at trial.

Andres Rivero of Rivero Mestre LLP, the lawyer representing Wright said, ‘’ this was a tremendous victory for our side.’’

The other partner David Kleiman died in April 2013 at the age of 46. His family later claim that Kleiman and Wright were close friends and co-created bitcoin through a partnership. It was led by Kleiman’s brother Ira. Wright first claim in 2016 that he is Nakamoto. The case was high of technical nature, with the jury listening to explanations of the intricate workings of Cryptocurrencies as well as the murky origins of bitcoins. It took almost a week for the jurors to deliberate, and understand how cryptocurrencies work. Furthermore, to understand the relationship between the two men.

The trial has drawn so much attention, as the origins of bitcoin have always been a mystery. In October 2008 during the height of the financial crisis, a person or group of people with the name ‘’ Satoshi Nakamoto’’ published a paper. The paper lays out the framework for the digital currency that involves computers solving mathematical equations.

During the trial, Wright and other Cryptocurrency experts have testified under oath that wright owns the bitcoins in question. Wright said that he would prove his ownership. Vel Freedman and Kyle Roche of Roche Freedman LLP and Andrew Brenner, a partner at Boies Schiller Flexner, in a joint statement, said, ‘’ Wright refused to give the Kleiman’s their fair share of what (David Kleiman) helped create and instead took those assets for himself.’’

Moreover, Wright said that he plans to donate much of the bitcoin fortune to Charity. In an interview, Wright’s lawyer reconfirmed Wright’s plans to donate much of his bitcoin fortune.
