Australia is dedicated to ensuring a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, and one key aspect of this commitment is cybersecurity. To bolster cybersecurity efforts in the region, the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) of the Australian Signals Directorate is introducing cybersecurity guides translated into more than 20 regional languages. These easy-to-follow guides are designed to enhance cybersecurity awareness and protect against malicious cyber activities that threaten businesses, governments, and citizens across the Indo-Pacific.
A secure cyberspace has long been a top priority for Australia. This initiative aligns with that priority, as many countries in the region continue to face persistent cyber threats from cybercriminals and other malicious online actors. These translated guides provide practical advice on securing electronic devices, recognizing cyber threats, and increasing overall cybersecurity awareness.
The Hon Richard Marles, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, emphasized Australia’s commitment to a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region enabled by secure cyberspace. He highlighted that these guides would be readily available through Australian diplomatic missions, cyber incident first responders in the Indo-Pacific via the Pacific Cyber Security Operational Network (PaCSON), and to the broader Australian community. By following the guidance provided in these guides, individuals, organizations, and businesses can strengthen their cybersecurity defenses and protect their online data and assets.
Malicious cyber activities pose a significant threat to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the region. Collaborative cybersecurity efforts with regional partners are crucial for collective defense and resilience. Australia will continue working with its partners to shape a safer and more secure region.
Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon Tim Watts MP, emphasized that economic growth in the region is closely linked to digitization. This initiative will help countries in the Indo-Pacific region build resilience against cybercrime, online scams, and other cyber risks that impact various sectors, including businesses, governments, and citizens.
