Australia Holds Russia Accountable for Cyber Crime, Demands Action

On March 8, a senior government official in Australia demanded that Russia take action against the significant number of cyber criminals. These criminals are operating within its borders, citing a threat to national security.

The call to action comes as Australia continues to reform its cybersecurity policies following a string of attacks. The statement highlights the importance of international collaboration in combating cybercrime and protecting national interests.

Density of cyber criminals in Russia

Michael Pezzullo, Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs said,”The greatest density of cyber criminals, particularly those with ransomware, are in Russia.” During the AFR Business Summit in Sydney he highlighted the severity of the issue. Furthermore asked for global cooperation to combat cybercrime.

Governments worldwide are making efforts towards cybersecurity. Australia’s cybersecurity policy reform is just one example. These reforms help to strengthen their digital security and protect against the growing threat of cyber attacks.

As part of these efforts, a new agency will be established within the Department of Home Affairs to coordinate government investment in the cybersecurity field.  Also, manage responses to future hacker attacks. Australia is aiming to strengthen its cybersecurity measures. Protect its national security interests through this move. Moreover, it is imperative that other nations cooperate in efforts to combat cybercrime
