Apple’s AI Advancements: Safari’s Evolution and Beyond

Apple is gearing up to emphasize its advancements in AI this year, with plans to integrate its forthcoming AI capabilities into the Safari web browser, as reported by Gizmodo. The upcoming iteration of Safari is anticipated to be load with AI functionalities, set to coincide with the launch of the iOS 18 software update.

This update is poised to introduce AI features alongside a chatbot for iPhone users.

Among the enhancements slated for Safari is Intelligent Search, leveraging on-device AI to discern topics and key phrases within web pages for content summarization.

Apple’s large language models (LLMs) will play a pivotal role in identifying explanatory sentences and object structures within page texts, as well as recognizing repetitive words and pivotal sentences as focal points.

Another notable addition is the Web Eraser feature, affording users the ability to selectively remove elements from web pages, encompassing banner ads, images, text, and page segments. These alterations will persist even after the tab or window is closed, with users being notified upon revisiting the page, offering the option to revert to the original state if desired.

Additionally, the revamped Safari is poised to introduce an updated user interface, encompassing a new page control menu, zoom functionalities, enhanced privacy controls, content blocking options, in-page text search, reader mode, and extension shortcuts.

Looking ahead, Apple plans to integrate a more robust visual search feature into Safari next year, enabling users to glean information on consumer products through image browsing, Visual Lookup feature employed by Siri for identifying pets, plants, and landmarks in photos.

Furthermore, reports suggest ongoing discussions between Apple and OpenAI regarding the development of a chatbot for upcoming Apple devices. There’s also speculation regarding the potential integration of Google’s Gemini AI into Apple’s ecosystem.

Apple’s LLMs are anticipated to underpin several AI features, with discussions revolving around a chatbot/search component in collaboration with OpenAI. Moreover, Apple is reportedly in negotiations with Google to license its Gemini chatbot for iOS 18.

In addition to Safari and iPhones, Apple is poised to extend AI capabilities to its MacBook and iPad lineup.
