Apple, whose workers are working from home at the moment was planning to heing them back the office. Now it is delaying the return of employees to its offices, as Covid cases worldwide are on a sharp rise, reported news agency Bloomberg.
The iPhone tech giant had been planning to bring in workers for three days a week from September but now this has been postponed to at least October, media reports said.
Sources told Bloomberg staff that the workers at Apple would be given at least one month’s notice before they are asked to returned to office.
Internal Memo
Apple’s plans to return to office have bee met with strong retaliation and dissatisfaction from some employees.
In June, chief executive Tim Cook sent out a company-wide internal memo informing all the employees they would have to return to their desks at the office soon.
In the memo, Mr Cook said he was really missing the “hum of activity” of in-person working and was “not alone” in that sentiment.
Employee Dissent
Some Apple employees disagree and in an internal letter say the plans make employees “choose between a combination of our families, our well-being, and empowerment to do our best job, or to be part of Apple”.
What Are The Competitors Doing?
Google has already issued similar work instructions to employees, telling them to return to work for at least three days a week at the office, starting in September.
But some companies were adjusting their plans as the COVID havic progressed.
In March, Amazon said: “Our plan is to return to an office-centric culture as our baseline.”
Later on, Amazon said “Our new baseline will be three days a week in the office,” adding employees could “work remotely up to two days a week”.
