Adobe Co-Founder John Warnock Passes Away at 82

Charles Geschke, the co-founder of Adobe and a key figure behind the creation of the Portable Document Format (PDF), passed away at the age of 81.

In 1982, Geschke co-established Adobe, a company that brought the world many innovations, including the widely used PDF software.He gained widespread attention in 1992 when he was kidnapped at gunpoint and held for ransom, an ordeal that lasted four days before he was released unharmed.

Geschke’s contributions were immense. He played a crucial role in shaping transformative software like PDF, Acrobat, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop.

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen expressed how Geschke ignited the revolution in desktop publishing and lamented the loss to the Adobe community and the entire technology industry.Geschke and his fellow co-founder John Warnock were also awarded the National Medal of Technology by President Barack Obama in 2009.

Geschke’s wife, Nan Geschke, described him as a humble individual who was proud of his accomplishments yet remained modest about his role in them.
