APPLE’S $100 MILLION SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT: GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPS

Apple has announced to change its policy that bans app developers from mentioning ways to pay to avoid Apple’s 30% cut, neither can use e-mail outside the store.

According to the new policy, app developers will soon be allowed to email customers and let them know how to avoid Apple’s payment system.

Why the app is introducing the new policy?

Apple is changing its policy as part of a $100m legal settlement with app makers. According to some sources, the tech giant said that its ‘’ clarification’’ and part of its‘’ efforts to evolve the app store.’’

However, the judicial terms have yet to be approved by the judicial system. Once it is approved, apple app developers will be able to contact their customers through emails gathered from the app store. They can inform their customers about payment outside of Apple’s system.

Also, Apple has considered customer’s consent for outside settlement and has the right to choose whatever is reasonable for them.

$100 m a big deal

Apple is considering keeping some developer-friendly policies as part of this commitment to facilitate them for few years.

One of the App developer Richard Czeslawski said, the ability to use customer information to tell them about their options was ‘’ a big deal’’. He added, that it’s a ‘’game changer’’ and will communicate clearly with the customers.

“App makers will still be lined from communicating about lower prices or offering competing payment options within their apps. We will not be appeased by empty gestures,” it said.

For both Apple and Apps developers, it’s a great initiative. Both of them put forward their ideas and opinions to settle the agreement. Appreciating the feedback of the app makers Apple said,

“Appreciates the developer feedback and ideas that helped inform the agreement”.

And also it will help Apple to provide better services to the customers based on their preferences. Apple added,

“The updates constitute the latest chapter of Apple’s longstanding efforts to evolve the App Store into an even better marketplace for users and developers alike,”

At the same time, Apple assured to host more price points for app makers to choose from more options that are available to them. Also, to publish an annual transparency report, app removal, and more. However, developers do not have the option to make payment directly into apps or use in-app notifications to inform their customers about various ways of payment.
