Commonwealth Bank systems are down for several hours

Commonwealth Bank is currently facing a significant digital systems outage, causing disruptions to its banking services and payments for customers. The bank has acknowledged the issue and stated that they are urgently investigating the problem.

In a statement, the bank apologized for the inconvenience caused and expressed gratitude for their customers’ patience. Due to the outage, the bank’s call centers are experiencing a high volume of customer inquiries, leading to longer wait times. While the bank’s branches remain open, there may be delays in serving customers.

The bank has advised that branch staff may not have additional information regarding the ongoing problems. The exact root cause of the outage has not been clarified at this time. Some customers visiting branches have been informed that the issues may persist until the afternoon.

Numerous customers have reported seeing a balance of $0 in their accounts and facing difficulties with transfers and payments for goods and services. Additionally, established direct debits from accounts have been declined.

Customers relying on the bank’s Facebook channel for updates have shared their experiences, with some overseas users mentioning that their payments for accommodation and travel services have been rejected.

Although there was a brief period around 10:30 am when services appeared to recover, any payments or transfers made during that time did not go through as expected.

Update: As of 4:00 pm, the bank has identified the root cause of the issue and is gradually restoring services. However, there may still be a backlog of payments that need to be processed.
