Vegetali Foods Recalls Popular Indian Butter Chicken Simmer Sauce Over Allergenic Nut Trace

Vegetali Foods, an Indian food manufacturer, has voluntarily recalled its popular One Rusty Jack Indian butter chicken simmer sauce 400g after failing to declare traces of a highly allergenic nut in the product.

The 400g sauce contains tree and cashew nuts, which can cause severe allergic reactions and even anaphylactic shock in those with a nut allergy.

The NSW Food Authority uncovered the Australian-concocted Indian food flavouring had been accessible at autonomous food retailers in New South Wales and Queensland – including IGA.

“Anyone with a cashew allergy or intolerance should not consume this product and return it to where it was purchased for a full refund, as they may experience a reaction if they do,” the food authority announced on Friday.

All products with a best-before date up to May 25, 2023 are included in the recall.

Allergies from cashews have been linked to devastating and even fatal complications, with symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, swelling, and shortness of breath.

Vegetali Foods, a boutique food manufacturer based on the NSW Central Coast, has been producing customised condiments for Australian food brands for over two decades, according to its website.
