Woolworths, the popular Australian supermarket chain, is trialling a new in-store camera system in its Wetherill Park store in NSW. This innovative new system is set to help facilitate better stock control and management, as well as improve customer experience.
At the Wetherill Park store in NSW, over 500 miniature cameras have been installed on shelves in order to enhance product availability. These tiny cameras have been placed on the underside of shelves near specials tags and will capture a picture every hour so staff can identify which products require replenishment.
“At the store, our teams are trialing new camera technology to cut down on manual processes and aid with replenishment tasks, such as real-time inventory monitoring and restocking priority,” the spokesperson said.
“We anticipate that this will result in an improved product offering being available to our customers throughout the day, and not only at predetermined times. We are looking forward to receiving feedback from both our customers at Wetherill Park and our employees over the coming months before making any decisions about what our next steps will be.”
After installing new cameras in the self-service checkouts to monitor correct scanning of products, signage has been put up outside the Wetherill Park store to inform customers of the trial before they enter the shop.
In February of last year, the trial of self-service cameras was launched, and now over 250 stores have adopted the change in 2023. If any scanning errors are detected by the camera, the footage captured is then replayed on the screen for the customer to observe and provide them with an opportunity to re-scan.
