Vocus Melbourne Data Centre power outage results in the inaccessibility of cloud, internet, and network services. The incident happened on monday morning that disrupted its own and third party network. Vocus must replace a UPS in its Melbourne data centre. According to Vocus reports, a “major incident” occurred at its VDC-MEL03 data centre located at 530 Collins Street. It was refitted in 2013 after acquiring it from ASX.
According to a status advisory, the data centre experienced complete power loss twice from 9:02 am to 9:27 am. Also , it happened again from 10:13 am to 10:20 am on Monday morning.
Conduct a complete investigation into the incident
Engineers announced that they had restored Vocus cloud services, NBN services, voice services (except some IPTel services across Victoria), and DNS services before midday. The telco also stated that it had reinstated power to colocation racks through a single feed
Vocus pledged to conduct a complete investigation into the incident and revealed that its preliminary findings pointed to faulty components in the A feed UPS (uninterruptible power supply) as the underlying cause.
Vocus stated that they will conduct additional works to completely replace UPS-A on-site on Friday. Several of the telco’s internet providers, including Dodo and iPrimus, faced service disruptions due to the power outage.
Aussie Broadband also experienced issues, with its app, customer service function, and business services going down, but has since recovered.
