New Chief Data Officer appointed by EnergyAustralia

After Sam Kline, the previous chief data and analytics officer, left the company, EnergyAustralia named Alicia Thomas as its new CDO.

Thomas was hired for the position in November of last year, and a utility spokeswoman confirmed her hiring

She formerly served as EnergyAustralia’s head of technology service excellence.

Kline, who held the CDAO position for two years, disclosed that he has since joined AWS and is working in a strategy position.

Kline’s responsibilities with AWS span both Australia and New Zealand.

In order to “help develop and establish their data strategy and analytics value-driven use cases, he will interact with important customers.”

Kline championed EnergyAustralia’s data and analytics agenda throughout his tenure there, including moving all data and analytics capabilities to a cloud-based ecosystem and retiring legacy infrastructure.

Kline spent nearly 20 years with ANZ Banking Group prior to joining EnergyAustralia, serving most notably as its head of data strategy and transformation for group risk from 2019 to 2020.
