Popular Salami Recalled over Contamination Fears

In a statement released on Thursday, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) announced that Murray River Smokehouse salami, mild and peppered, had been urgently recalled due to possible contamination.

“We are recalling the product due to microbial (Salmonella) contamination,” FSANZ said.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Symptoms of salmonellosis, the illness caused by Salmonella, include fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and headaches. These symptoms usually last for 4-7 days.

The salami is available for sale at Harris Farm Markets stores, Thyme to Taste, Goldfields Grocers, and Milawa Cheese in NSW and Victoria.

The affected products have a best before date of Feb 25 2023 (mild) and March 6 2023 (peppered).

Consumers are advised to return the affected product to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you have consumed the affected salami and have any of the above symptoms, please seek medical advice immediately.
