The Department of Defence has issued an expression of Interest for procurement of the vendor. Defence revealed the plans to establish multi-vendor secret cloud services hosted in Australia.
Moreover, another two tranches focusing on future expansion of the IaaS platform planned for later in the year. Currently defence is using public cloud services and protected security classifications. However, it relies on other secret networks to collaborate at the secret security level.
Meanwhile, the department said these ‘’ siloed information systems and the use of disparate networks are hampering coordination efforts.
Secret Iaas Platform availability to department of Home affairs
The expectations are that the secret IaaS system will be available to the department of foreign affairs and home affairs, and potentially include other agencies as well. Defence said, ‘’ The establishment of an Australian government pathway to secret cloud capabilities will enhance interagency collaboration, support critical decision making and uplift national infrastructure.’’ Among the three-tranche programs, one will focus on ‘’ rapidly establishing a foundational secret IaaS cloud service’’. Which has two causes: enterprise hosting, and large and high-volume data.
In the case of large and high-volume data, the platform will be use to ingest large payloads like sensory, imagery and audio data files, as well as other sensitive information for decision makers.
Cloud providers ensure to have existing services that are accredited as a “certified strategic service” under the government’s hosting certification framework. Or else have an application currently in progress. Moreover, Amazon Web Services, AUCloud, Kyndryl, Microsoft, Oracle, Sliced Tech and Vault Cloud have accredited certified strategies by a digital transformation agency.
