Here we sit down with Jono, to know a bit more about his journey as an online educator.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Jono: When I was in my early 20’s, I was working full time in a gym and making $40K a year. I went to the bank to ask for a home loan and they turned me down. I said ‘how much money do I need to save up?” and they said ‘as long as your only making $40K we can never give you a home loan’… So I started to look for other opportunities to earn

Q. How did you get started?

Jono: I was able to tiptoe my way into entrepreneurism… I worked at a franchise with a 60/40 split… The franchise would do the marketing – I would do the sales and delivery. This was great coming from an employee background because I was able to see how the better I got sales – the more money I would make and the better I got at delivering – the more money I would make.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Jono: My biggest start-up challenge was my mindset. I was still in a victim mindset where if something didn’t work out – I would look for someone else to blame. If I wasn’t making enough sales it was because the leads were bad. If I was losing clients it was because the competition was cheaper. Once I was able to flip that mindset and realize that the reason I wasn’t where I wanted to be was a no-ones fault but my own – my business skyrocketed!

Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing You’ve Done Since you Started your Business?

Jono: I now run a company “Fitness Education Online” which generates close to $1M a year without me being there.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Jono: Either “How to win friends and influence people” or “Think and Grow Rich”… both of those books are like 100 years old and the principles still hold up! And whenever a successful person is asked what books they recommend – they usually recommend one of those 2!

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?

  • Facebook Groups – there is no other place in the world like Facebook Groups where you join a community of like-minded people and interact!
  • LinkedIn – there is no other platform in the world where you are able to find the exact type of person you want to network with and connect with that person at the click of a button and for it to be considered totally appropriate
  • Udemy – you can learn anything you want at a decent level for $20!

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Jono: To be known as one of the best online business people in the world.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Jono: Find someone who’s already done what you want to do and pay them to teach you
