Tesla stops allowing drivers to play video games while driving

Tesla Company will use a software update to prevent its games from being played on the center consoles while driving. US auto safety regulators put pressure on the company to agree to stop allowing video games to be play on touch screens. According to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company will send out a software update. The function is call to be ‘’ Passenger play’’ which will be lock and won’t work while the vehicle is in motion. The message came a day after the company has announced to open a formal investigation against distracted driving.

On Thursday, agency spokeswomen said in a statement, that the change came after regulators discuss the concerns about the system with Tesla. The company has aimed to continue its investigation even after the update. NHTSA’s statement said, ‘’ the vehicle Safety act prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles with defects posing unreasonable risks to safety, including technologies that distract drivers from driving safety.’’

Also, Tesla said that it will assess and identify the distraction hazards and misuse of screens, and other inconvenience technology in the vehicle. It would formally investigate the screens. It will cover the Tesla Models S, X, Y, and 3 from the year 2017 through 2022 model years.

Criticism faced by Tesla Company

Elon Musk’s car firm had faced several criticisms about the feature considering it dangerous. The New York Times reported that Tesla Company had contacted the NHTSA directly. The agency said, ‘’passengers play will now be lock and unusable when the Vehicle is in motion.’’ However, Tesla has not yet issued any formal statement regarding the issue. Earlier this week NHTSA said that passenger play ‘’ may distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash’’. Although, the games on the touchscreen in the car were not for drivers. They were for the passengers, so there was nothing to prevent a driver from using it. Last August, the agency launched an investigation into Tesla’s autopilot system after a dozen car crashes.
