The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is in search of a new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). The recruitment is followed by the departure of Tim Spiteri. In a recruitment advertisement, the AFP stated that the incoming CISO would play a crucial role in shaping and implementing its cybersecurity strategy. Also including overseeing cyber security operations and enhancing capabilities.
Additionally, the chosen candidate will be tasked with advancing the organization’s information security governance structure. Meanwhile promote a culture of cyber-awareness throughout the AFP.Signs of an impending transition emerged last year when the AFP’s organizational chart indicated that the CISO responsibilities were shared between Tim Spiteri and Benjamin Lamont.
Previously, Lamont served as the Manager of Technology Strategy and Data.
Currently, Lamont is listed as the sole CISO in the organizational chart, albeit in an acting capacity, while the AFP seeks a permanent replacement for Spiteri.
It is anticipated that Lamont will continue with the AFP until a permanent CISO is appointed, though it remains uncertain whether he will revert to his previous role or assume a different position within the technology division.
