Woolworths Launches New Bag to Support Charitable Causes

Woolworths has recently announced the launch of a new range of reusable grocery bags designed by Warumungu Wombana artist and founder of creative agency Nugngala Creative, Jessica Johnson. The major supermarket chain has collaborated with Johnson to create three distinct and colourful designs titled ‘Fresh as’, ‘Journey Lines’ and ‘Landtracks’.

The new bags are made using at least 70 per cent recycled materials, making them both an environmentally-friendly and aesthetically pleasing addition to Woolworths’ product range.

The new bags, which will cost customers $2, are larger than the current 99 cent bags and come with longer handles for carrying on the shoulder.

Woolworths will be donating $100,000 to the Yothu Yindi Foundation in conjunction with the launch of their art bag, with the money going toward the education of Yolngu students in Northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

Ms Johnson expressed her enthusiasm to have her designs featured on the bags that will soon be in the possession of thousands of Australians.

“The artwork is a representation of the joyous feeling associated with eating. We refer to it as the food dance – a kind of ecstatic emotion that transforms into a slight groove in anticipation of devouring a meal,” she said.
