Western Sydney University seeks a new CIO

Australia

Daniel Saffioti, the CIO of Western Sydney University, is resigning, and the university has begun the hiring process for a replacement.

Saffioti, a longtime employee of the university’s IT department, began working there in 2015 as a solutions architect and engineer. He has since held positions as a lecturer and the director for solution and process services.

He was named the deputy chief information and digital officer in 2021.

He was chosen as CIO at the beginning of the year during a restructuring that saw WSU divide the post of head of IT into two.

Western Sydney University confirmed Saffioti’s impending resignation, saying he “has maintained a senior position in the university’s Information Technology and Digital Services (ITDS) for the last four years.”

When the Covid-19 pandemic first began, “he played a major role in ensuring that the University’s IT systems were adjusted and suitable for off-campus activities,” the spokeswoman stated.

“The University is in strong hands as it moves forward with its digital acceleration plan thanks to his knowledge and influence throughout that time as well as his leadership in the CIO job.”

The institution wants Saffioti’s successor to “continue to improve the University’s information technology capabilities and ensure that it is well-positioned to handle new and future technological and cyber security concerns,” the statement added.

Kerry Holling also recently retired, according to his LinkedIn profile. iTnews has requested confirmation from the university.
