In an effort to attract new employees, a McDonald’s store in Western Australia is offering a $1000 bonus to new recruits.
The Western Australia store is the first in the country to offer the sign-on bonus, which is available to staff who work at least 30 hours a week for six months.
Darren Tyrrell, Albany McDonald’s owner, said the lack of workers in the state is the reason for the offer.
To become eligible for the bonus, new comers have to apply for a position at the store in August.
“We’ll have positions for part-time, casual, and full-time staff members with a $1000 bonus in a bid to attract workers,” Mr. Tyrrell said via Perth Now.
“We want to show people that McDonald’s is a great place to work and that we value our employees.”
The move comes as the store looks to fill a number of positions, as COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc on staff levels.
The sign-on bonus will be paid $100 a week for the first 10 weeks.
“It’s only been going for about a week or so, and we’ve certainly seen an increase in applications, but we’re really encouraging people over the remaining two weeks (of August) to apply for a great job at Maccas,” Mr. Tyrrell said.
