Vocus CEO Kevin Russell to retire

From the beginning of the following month, incumbent Chief Operating Officer Ellie Sweeney will take over as CEO of Vocus in place of outgoing CEO Kevin Russell.

Vocus announced that Russell, who served as CEO for five years and has worked in the telecoms industry for more than three decades, had made the decision to retire.

“Over the past five years, Kevin’s leadership has restored Vocus to growth and established

the business as a fierce competitor in the market,” Sweeney added.

“I would like to congratulate and thank him for his important contribution to the firm on behalf of the board and the Vocus team.”

She said, “I am thrilled to be guiding the team through the following stage of our growth aspiration.

“At Vocus, we pride ourselves on being a challenger that aspires to higher possibilities by ‘creating vital connections.

In my four years as COO, I’ve seen firsthand how important those connections are, both the fibre connections we build and the relationships with our clients that are built by our tremendously brilliant employees.

The appointment of an inside candidate as CEO, according to Vocus chair Penny Bingham-Hall, “speaks volumes about Vocus’ shared sense of purpose and unity of culture.”
