The Victoria government has chosen Conduent Business Services to revamp and operate the Myki public transport ticketing system for a period of 15 years.Since late November 2021, the state has been searching for a new provider to handle Myki, as the existing agreement with NTT Data is set to expire by the end of this year.
Conduent Business Services will take over the operations starting from December 1.The government highlighted that Conduent Business Services has successfully managed over 400 ticketing systems across 24 countries.
During the transition phase, there will be no immediate changes to the Myki or V/Line ticketing system.However, the government plans to introduce improvements in 2024, gradually incorporating new payment options such as tapping on and off with credit or debit cards, as well as using digital wallets on smartphones or smartwatches.
The government aims to make the ticket purchasing process more convenient for Victorians by progressively introducing new features.
Minister for Public Transport, Ben Carroll, expressed that the new contract marks an important milestone in the advancement of myki as a future-proofed ticketing solution for Victoria’s exceptional public transport system.
He stated that over the past seven years, improvements have been made to Myki, and the new contract will further benefit passengers by utilizing proven technology to streamline top-ups, touch-on procedures, and travel experiences.
