Version of ChatGPT for major businesses is being released by OpenAI

OpenAI is launching a version of ChatGPT aimed at catering to the needs of large enterprises, which may create some overlap in the offerings between OpenAI and its financial supporter, Microsoft.

This new offering, known as ChatGPT Enterprise, is designed to provide enhanced security, privacy, and faster access to OpenAI’s technology. Notable early customers include Block, Carlyle, and Estee Lauder Companies.

The initial release of ChatGPT, targeted at consumers and introduced in November of the previous year, witnessed a surge in the use of generative AI for various daily tasks, ranging from writing to coding. By January, it had garnered an impressive 100 million monthly active users.

Interestingly, despite employer discouragement, a Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that many individuals in the US had been using ChatGPT to assist them with work-related tasks.

With the introduction of ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI aspires to create an environment where employers feel more comfortable embracing the use of ChatGPT within their workplaces.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft already offers businesses access to ChatGPT through its Azure OpenAI Service, although this requires companies to be Azure customers. In contrast, subscribers to ChatGPT Enterprise can utilize the service without the need for an Azure subscription, according to OpenAI.

While OpenAI and Microsoft have introduced overlapping services in the past, the extent of competition for customers between the two companies remains uncertain. When asked whether ChatGPT Enterprise directly competes with Microsoft for customers, an OpenAI spokesperson emphasized that “customers have the freedom to select the platform that best suits their business needs.”
