Ventia Secures $134 Million Contract for NBN Co’s Fibre Connect Program

Ventiahas successfully landed a contract worth approximately $134 million, spanning the next two-and-a-half years, as part of NBN Co’s notable Fibre Connect initiative. This program has been designed to significantly expand fiber connectivity to various communities situated across several Australian regions, including Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and Western Australia.

The announcement, made via an ASX release, marks an important step forward for the final phase of NBN Co’s ambitious plan to overbuild the existing fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) footprints. As part of this strategic endeavor, a total of 1.5 million premises have been targeted for enhancement, backed by a substantial $2.4 billion investment from the Australian government.

The newly secured contract is set to kick off its operations this month, aligning with NBN Co’s commitment to enhancing fiber connectivity across Australia. Ventia joins a select group of companies, including Enerven Energy Infrastructure, Genus Services, UGL, Downer EDI, and Service Stream, that have been entrusted with driving the final phase of this substantial infrastructure expansion.

Pivotal contributor to Australia’s evolving digital landscape

This initiative is poised to significantly augment the overall coverage of the National Broadband Network (NBN). With a projected extension of the eligible fiber-to-the-node-to-fiber-to-the-premises (FTTN-to-FTTP) footprint to encompass approximately 3.5 million premises, coupled with the earlier announcement that around 1.5 million customers will experience FTTC upgrades, the impact of this effort is set to be considerable.

NBN Co’s groundbreaking decision in 2020 to allocate half of its network to fiber-to-the-node deployments further underscores the significance of this expansion. While the adoption of the fiber offer, requiring customers to opt for a service offering speeds of 100Mbps or higher and maintain it for at least a year, has witnessed a slower-than-expected uptake, industry experts anticipate a notable increase in the latter half of the year.

As Ventia embarks on its crucial role within the Fibre Connect program, it becomes a pivotal contributor to Australia’s evolving digital landscape. The project’s endeavors to deliver enhanced connectivity and improved communication options to residents in diverse communities signify a forward-looking investment that is poised to yield significant benefits in the long run.
