US to Assist Australia in Producing Advanced Missile Systems

During annual high-level talks in Brisbane, the United States has pledged to support Australia in developing new advanced missile systems and enhancing its northern bases. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced plans to expedite Australia’s access to advanced munitions that can be locally manufactured. The top priority will be the production of the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, developed by Lockheed Martin.

In addition to strengthening missile capabilities, the US will collaborate with Australia to increase military force rotations in the Pacific region and enhance cooperation in space. Details on the space cooperation remain limited, but it will include a focus on space domain awareness. Defense Minister Richard Marles did not disclose further information, but emphasized the importance of joint efforts to enhance the alliance’s capabilities in the space domain.

Overall, the AUSMIN talks showcased the strength and ambition of the US-Australia alliance, marking significant steps towards reinforcing their strategic partnership.
