US Bans Apple Watch Over Patent Dispute

Apple has been stopped from selling one of its best product watches amid patent dispute. The tech company is facing allegations of using medical monitoring firm technology in it’s watches. Apple has removed all of the products from the stores both online and offline. California based company reportedly claimed pulse oximetry technology. The technology is used to measure the amount of Oxygen in blood.

Masimo is a medical technology company that has a patent of oxygen blood sensor technology. The company also accused Apple for hiring it’s employees. Also, incorporating the technology into it’s product. The patent infringement has cost Apple to remove it’s most profitable products from the shelve.

Meanwhile, the International Trade Commission (ITC) barred Apple from selling its products that use the technology. Meanwhile, the president of United States Joe Biden has the option to reverse the ban, however, he declined.

Apple Watch Ban decision

The final decision came on December 26, alleging technology theft. Apple watch series 9 and ultra 2 are the ones believed to be impacted by the ban. Meanwhile, Apple Watch SE is not affected by the ban. It does not include the Oxygen blood sensor. Also, previously sold watches are not affected by this move.

At the same time, customers outside of the US should not be worried about this ban. As the patents are territorials. They will not impact other countries. Meanwhile, Apple said in a statement that the company is working to overturn the decision. Talking to Reuter, Apple spokesperson said that they strongly disagree with the decision. Apple is taking all the measures to bring back the product to US customers.

Reportedly almost $4.4 trillion products have been paused until another decision that is due on january 12. Though, Apple is reportedly working on software change.
