Residents of The Pines, a quaint community nestled in southern Queensland, are facing an imminent threat as a dangerous bushfire encroaches upon their town. The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service issued an emergency broadcast on Sunday morning, urging the residents to “leave immediately” to ensure their safety.
The small community, located near Millmerran in the picturesque Southern Downs region, finds itself at the mercy of a rapidly advancing bushfire. The urgency in the evacuation order reflects the severity of the situation, with authorities prioritizing the well-being of the residents above all else.
“Evacuate without delay,” sternly declares the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) in a stark warning.
“Your life may be in jeopardy, and soon it will become perilous to travel by car. If you find yourself without a secure destination, seek refuge at the Wylahra Grove Progress Recreation Hall located at 72 Primrose Drive, Millmerran Downs.”
The ongoing bushfire poses a danger to residences situated between Flamingo Road, Rosella Avenue, Scrubby Creek Boondanilla Rd, and the Gore Highway. Firefighters are actively combatting the blaze to the west of Toowoomba, employing five firefighting aircraft and receiving support from a strike team dispatched from Victoria.
The cautionary message paints a somber outlook on the potential peril faced by residents due to the advancing fire.
The warning cautions that firefighters might be unable to prevent the fire from approaching closer.
“Anticipate that a firefighter may not reach your doorstep. Power, water, and mobile phone services may cease functioning imminently. Visibility and breathing may become challenging due to thick smoke, causing eye irritation. The conditions will be hot and noisy, with the possibility of nearby explosions,” the warning states.
