The University of Canberra (UC) has unveiled a 10-year digital masterplan (DMP) aimed at significantly improving the university experience for students, staff, and the wider community. This ambitious plan, spearheaded by Chief Digital Officer Craig Mutton, allocates $30 million for the initial three years. The program focuses on three key areas: cybersecurity, platform modernization, and data quality.
Mutton emphasized that the DMP is not simply a technology-driven initiative. He explained that it represents a collaborative effort, with staff and students working together across all departments to develop and implement 68 initiatives within the first three years. This co-design process is seen as fundamental to the plan’s success.
The UC has already begun laying the groundwork for the DMP with nine projects initiated during the development phase. These projects include the implementation of a new curriculum management system, enhanced cybersecurity measures, data management improvements, and the migration of content management and research services to cloud platforms.
Looking ahead, the UC plans to further modernize its data architecture, develop a dedicated digital experience platform, automate student communication channels, and consolidate its multi-cloud strategy. These initiatives are expected to streamline processes, improve user experience, and empower a more connected university environment.
