The AAPT data centre located in Forest Lodge, Sydney, which is owned by TPG Telecom, has been put up for sale with an expected price tag of around $45 million. The three-storey data centre is listed by Colliers and offers over 6,000 square meters of floor space on a 3,600 square meter land parcel.
Originally created by the Australian Associated Press media wire as “AAP Telecommunications,” AAPT later obtained a telecommunications carrier license in 1997. TPG Telecom currently holds a 15-year lease on the data centre, with an option for an additional 10 years, and intends to continue using the facility after its sale.
The data centre includes vacant areas that are currently subject to an application for “9B educational use,” with the potential to accommodate around 500 students if approved.
Strategic Location
The Forest Lodge site is strategically located near Glebe, the University of Sydney, and the RPA Hospital, and is within 3.4 kilometers of the Sydney CBD.The listing highlights potential value-add opportunities through leasing the vacant space, repositioning the asset, and potential future redevelopment, subject to council approval.
TPG Telecom acquired the facility from AAPT, which was already a subsidiary, for $30 million in 2014.The AAPT data centre in Forest Lodge is a significant asset in Sydney’s telecommunications landscape, and its sale is expected to attract considerable attention from potential buyers.
