TPG Telecom has initiated a “full-scale” data handling review

TPG Telecom has announced a thorough internal review of its handling, storage, and purging practices for customer data in response to a discovery of an issue.

The review aims to improve the company’s internal processes and to request and store only necessary data securely, purging it as soon as possible.

The cause of the review is unclear, but it may be related to hybrid work arrangements’ potential risks to data or last year’s breach of hosted Exchange services. TPG Telecom has increased remote monitoring of employee access and activities and introduced procedural changes to strengthen its control environment.

The company did not provide further details on the breach but said it continues to strengthen its security processes and capabilities to protect customer data from unauthorized use, access, modification, or disclosure. Data collection and handling practices have become a critical topic after a series of high-profile data breaches where attackers exfiltrated historical data and personally identifiable information dating back years.
