The government of South Australia has started the much-anticipated process to update its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Oracle has been chosen to provide the new platform.
In 2022, Stephen Mullighan, the Treasurer, informed that the Department of Finance was working on replacing the outdated Masterpiece system. This project was happening alongside efforts to replace the old mainframe that supports Masterpiece, as well as other systems used by SA Police, Courts Administration Authority, and departments like Attorney-General, Child Protection, and Correctional Services.
A request for proposals was sent out in December 2022, and Oracle has now been declared the winner of this contract.
The new system will be built on Oracle’s Fusion Cloud ERP and will include Fusion ERP Analytics. Oracle’s goal is to help the South Australian government streamline its financial operations and gain better business insights to enhance productivity, lower expenses, and strengthen control across its 51 agencies.
Oracle explained that choosing a cloud-based solution will boost precision and efficiency. It will also help keep up with evolving laws and accounting standards, as well as enhance auditing processes.
The system, which Shared Services South Australia (SSSA) will provide to various state agencies, is expected to manage 3 million invoices and prepare 175 financial statements every year.
Treasurer Mullighan expressed hope in 2022 that the new system would be operational by 2025.
