The Hume data centre lease has been extended by Services Australia and CDC

The major data centre lease with Canberra Data Centres has been extended, increasing the total cost of facility access to $295 million over the last decade.

Last week, the services agency announced a $188.9 million deal with CDC for its principal data centre site in Hume, Canberra.

The initial contract’s worth was decreased from $223.7 million to $106.1 million late last month, and it was set to expire at the end of November 2021.

Following the publishing of the new contract, it also believed that the figure was changed to appropriately reflect the total worth of the arrangement.

The value of the Services Australia and CDC connection for the Hume facility currently stands at $295 million between December 2011 and February 2023, thanks to the new contract.

The spokeswoman stated, “Our contracts are negotiated following conventional procurement processes in compliance with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules.”

“We make every effort to post contract notices on AusTender within the specified timeframe.”

Services Australia also has a separate $13.5 million deal with CDC for its Fyshwick data centre.

The incoming federal government has promised to strengthen contract disclosure on AusTender, including providing more extensive descriptions.

It comes after a string of incidents in recent years in which agencies failed to register contracts in accordance with the requirements, including a nearly year-long delay with one Digital Transformation Agency deal.
