The government has begun the mobile auditing process

The Australian government is set to equip Australia Post vehicles with mobile signal measurement technology to audit the country’s mobile telecommunications services.

The $20 million audit was funded in last year’s federal budget, and the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts has now launched a tender seeking a technical adviser to help identify service providers to deliver the audit.

The audit is set to collect data on mobile coverage signal and capacity, signal availability and strength, throughput, congestion, and mobile data log files. The technical adviser will be appointed for a period of seven months, with two 12-month extensions possible.

The audit will leverage Australia Post infrastructure and corporate assets, and international experience in similar audits is of interest to the government.
