Perth now has a brand-new AWS cloud infrastructure region. The Amazon Web Service investment offers customers single-digit latency to end users or on-premises data centres and launched over a year after its initial announcement.
The debut in Perth, according to Stephen Dawson, the state’s minister for innovation and the digital economy, “is a significant gain for Western Australian organisations and the economy.”
According to Dawson, “An AWS Local Zones site in Perth opens up more opportunity for Western Australian enterprises to innovate and develop new services allowing better experiences for their customers and our citizens.
“Our state’s innovation strategy will be driven by having world-class cloud infrastructure here in Perth, and this will improve the diversification of our economy.”
According to AWS, Local Zones are “built expressly for major Western Australian industries” such the public, healthcare, and resource industries.
Low-latency applications including video analytics, online gaming, virtual workstations, live broadcasting, remote healthcare, and augmented and virtual reality are all supported by the infrastructure.
AWS intends to open 23 additional AWS Local Zones worldwide, including one in Brisbane.
